RFoF for Broadcast Audio Video Applications
TV broadcast companies, as well as audio applications for events, need to provide high-quality audio and video throughputs. Sometimes it is required to increase the range of the sensors (audio and video) over a few kilometers.
The old method of deployment of coax cable is not practical, therefore RF Over Fiver has become the preferred solution. RFOptic’s new series- programmable RFoF links Tx and Rx are designed to enhance the broadcaster’s coverage by transporting RF signals between RF audio and video antennas to their receivers transparently over long distances.
It can carry any RF signal within the range of 0.5 MHz to 3 GHz or 0.5MHz to 6 GHz with built-in LNA (low noise amplifier) generating the lowest noise figure of about 5 dB. The application of the LNA is done through software and not hardware which provides flexibility to the user to adjust the required parameters in accordance with his needs. As a result, the MDS (minimum detectable signal) increases at 10dB to 20 dB which enables to transfer easily low signals of even -120 dBm. Another feature which is vital in repeated installations for broadcast companies is the adjustment of the gain at the Tx and Rx utilizing 30 dB Attenuator with 0.5dB resolution. This is very practical when the same gain of different links utilizing different single mode fiber link is required. The gain control enables the broadcaster to tune each link to the required gain.
Another common application is for wireless microphone signal distribution.
You can extend the coverage of wireless microphones by remotely placing antennas farther away from your Audio Receiver. The Optical Tx module converts the input RF signal to an optical signal, which is transported over a long fiber optic cable run to reach the Optical Rx module, where the optical signal is converted back into its original RF form. This functionality enables the extension of the the range of the audio sensitive microphones.
The RFoF modules with option to activate an LNA by software can be used also for surveillance cameras without line of sight to the control room. This can be useful for strategic sites like mines, oil facilities, buildings security fences etc. The user interface is micro- USB exactly like any mobile or smart phone where the software runs on any PC with windows 7 and up.
